hey mga, have a look here

** AND DONT MENTION THAT I POSTED HERE, unless you want that guy thats spewing garbage all over network54 to come and start doing it here-- i left tjp to get away from that. **

"Is anyone around who can describe Python's EXEC (or is this coming from an import item)?"

first: no, its not about imports.

second: if you had any idea how un-special the thing about imports was...

and to answer the more interesting question, YES, right here: http://www.thejoyfulprogrammer.com/qb64/forum/showthread.php?tid=729

i explain it in detail. basically you just add the strings of your "program" and put ascii 10 between them (i figure ascii 13,10 works too) and suddenly python is as flexible as c when it comes to a particular thing...

the contest closes in about 26 hours, and i havent heard from walt. presumably i will soon.

if walt doesnt come back to the forum in a timely manner (give him a day or two) the contest will still come to its conclusion. either way, any entries not submitted by jun 30 at 00:00 utc (thats the *beginning* of jun 30, midnight, utc) will have to wait until 2018 and resubmit then.

they wont be deleted, but submissions only count when the contest is open.

Thanks, so it works allot like CHAIN here at SB but the big surprise is that it does machine code!

Now is someone going to tell me, "Oh! you can do that with SB too!" ;-))

BTW, flukiluke takes the cake for originality is my vote! (assuming it works as advertised)

"BTW, flukiluke takes the cake for originality is my vote!"

youd perhaps be interested in judging the contest next year. (not a joke.)

this forums own bplus won the contest this year:

Originality: 4 out of 5 = 12
Simplicity: 3 out of 5 = 6 (4 out of 5 was considered, but it was on the fence.)
Brevity: 3 out of 5 = 6
Features: 5 out of 5 = 10
Documentation: 5 out of 5 = 5

12 + 6 + 6 + 10 + 5 = 39:50

if the numbers seem weird (or just wrong,) theyre fully explained at the official results post: (bplus earned the victory with a first-year entry that perfectly demonstrates what the contest is about. luke was VERY CLOSE on his tail, and even in the "judges stands" it was unsure how it would go. it was basically a photo-finish, in scoring. we could definitely use more or new judges next year. that said, bplus was outstanding.)

:) Hey an opportunity to give an acceptance speech!

Thanks to flukiluke for making this a contest so the judges had to work!
From their comments, I think they had to compare apples to oranges ;)

Thanks to Chris for providing a fun and powerful flavor of BASIC.

Thanks to Shian for his helpful example at SmallBASIC forum.

Thanks to figosdev who has led me down path of several adventures.

Thanks to Walter who welcomed us at his forum and his great enthusiasm to provide a sharing environment.

Thanks to all at forums where I have hung my pictures on the refrigerator door,
all who teach and learn with me, inspire, challenge and provide social support...
like Johnno with whom I have shared an imaginary cup of coffee almost daily!

hey fig ....
what is going on all about that junk talks against you and walt ?
I simply cannot follow all that stuff..geee
is that ONLY because you are admin on TJP forum?
all other trash talk don't make any sense for me ...

..what is going on with your forum - unofficial distros ?

i killed unofficial distros for the very simple reason that freeforums is moving to a really lousy new platform/partner.

the "new" forum would be really ugly and too corporate. it pushed an app; it had a EULA at the bottom of the page. i archived the forum and killed it from the recovery console. i wont recommend freeforums in the future.

do you stop posting on TJP or you make a break?

for now, ive stopped. for how long? no one knows.

im hoping the contest will be an annual thing. also hoping to get other judges next year-- also hoping to get more entries next year. i still couldnt be happier about nano.

its a big deal to me, what nano represents in terms of the stuff i care about with coding. the contest was based on a theory, and nano positively reinforced the hypothesis. i still think the contest is a good idea.

Hi figosdev,

A couple of places in this thread you expressed desire for more judges.

I have been thinking about that since you brought it up twice (at least).

I don't really want to discuss contest at this forum but Walter has moved everything around and there is no place (at moment) for discussion of next year's contest. Maybe in Waltersmind there isn't going to be a next year contest ???

Anyway, IF there were another contest AND you want more judges AND potentially more contestants THEN here is my idea:
All who enter the contest are allowed to judge, their entry earns them the right!
(As long as they aren't just screwing around but who decides that!?!?)!

AND Starting the year after the next, for all who entered the previous year can judge the current year.
IF they also enter the current year, THEN their judging score is double weighted!!!

And this weighting system goes on into the future, those who participated 2 years have their judging scores double weighted and triple if they enter the contest as well!

I think those who participate earn the right and the experience to judge, the more they play the more their judgement is worth to the contest and theoretically the quality of the participation will improve as well as the judging, might setup an upward spiral of improvements.

I have more ideas but I'd rather discuss them at the forum that hosts the contest next year, if there will be one.

Mark

"I don't really want to discuss contest at this forum but Walter has moved everything around and there is no place (at moment) for discussion of next year's contest. Maybe in Waltersmind there isn't going to be a next year contest ???"

walt and i still talk sometimes, i believe you have completely misunderstood his intentions for moving things-- the contest is over for almost 335 days (alright, so 320 something) and hes only trying to make it easier for you all to get to currently relevant things. youve managed a restaurant, so putting currently relevant things at the front should be old hat to you. i like forums that move around less often, but hes just looking for the right balance.

"All who enter the contest are allowed to judge, their entry earns them the right!
(As long as they aren't just screwing around but who decides that!?!?)!"

youve presented an idea i like, and the biggest likely pitfall in parentheses. i dont know what i can add to that except that i like it, and it might not work for exactly the reason you said. its worth talking about again.

"for all who entered the previous year can judge the current year."

this one (by itself) i like even more than the other idea.

"IF they also enter the current year, THEN their judging score is double weighted!!!"

this seems unfair or confusing. if everyone (most) loved it though, i dont think its that awful.

"And this weighting system goes on into the future, those who participated 2 years have their judging scores double weighted and triple if they enter the contest as well!"

this i really dont like. its got a certain kind of fairness to it, but really i think its just too stacked against new entrants. i mean it might even be a recipe for letting previous winners effectively disqualify anyone new. i would never personally endorse this part of the idea, no offense.

"I think those who participate earn the right and the experience to judge,"

agreed, perhaps.

"the more they play the more their judgement is worth to the contest and theoretically the quality of the participation will improve as well as the judging, might setup an upward spiral of improvements."

or of elitism, which is my concern. to be honest, experience doesnt work exactly like most people think it does-- experience is valuable, but in terms of what counts most, experience has to stay relevant. that doesnt mean experience ever loses all value-- im an oldie of a sort-- it means that bringing george washington in to solve the problems of the 21st century politics may or may not work. he could be JUST the person for the job/we need. but it would be ridiculous to just assume hes the most qualified.

"I have more ideas but I'd rather discuss them at the forum that hosts the contest next year, if there will be one."

have it your way (wrong restaurant, sorry) but i wont be there for a while. its not that i dont love the place. walt and i are on good terms, and im glad youre having fun over there. i do stop by sometimes to find out what you guys are up to. i really dont do that with the "new" bp.org. i dont stop by n54 much either.

thanks for your ideas-- i support the "best" of them entirely and the others, i support partly or (only one) not at all. id rather someone ask me before quoting me out of context, for the record. if theyre going to change it id want to be part of the conversation, anyway. but your idea about letting ALL previous participants judge? sure.

even though i dont think luke gets the spirit of the contest at all, his entry was valuable and very welcome, and though his generally attitude is very much what the contest is NOT about-- having one judge like that could be good for the future of the contest.

but what if it became flooded with such people? what if it got effectively taken over by people from qb64? that would be the end of the contest, as far as im concerned. even if it kept going regardless. it would no longer serve its own purpose at all-- to get people that havent considered language design to HAVE FUN considering it, and trying to make it easier.

most of the people interested in language design wouldnt have anything to do with that-- unless they could remake it in their (much more narrow) image. if that ever happens, the contest is lost. your idea could make that happen-- is is a real risk of letting all participants judge. you even caught it before i mentioned it.

cheers.

...but i think that you have wrong aout all this ,what you have from this jerks on n54 ?
that forum is full of nothing and posting there is a pure waste of time...
i still dont get it this people reaktions ,it looks that hate you.

To Walter,

Sorry but the editor for the Personal Message service is impossible to use at The QB Edition.
I can not get a message written or a partial one sent through it.

So if you are still looking in here, I have to ask why you allow posts by what's his name that are abusive to others members to stay up even after I point them out to you?
